Things I learned today:

1. I can actually cook a turkey and not only is it edible, but quite delicious! Now, you might ask, why is this a lesson I learned today? I never cook for Thanksgiving...but we will be this year because Eric's mom has been battling an aggressive cancer that requires chemo and sucks the energy right out of her so we are staying home and cooking for her and the rest of the clan. And the last attempt I made at a turkey was at least six years ago, and didn't come out quite as I'd planned. Edible but not "go for seconds". Alas, the turkey for tonight was not ours to keep as it was going to a church function, but sampling it beforehand was quite satisfying. And I'm quite pleased to know I will actually be able to make a good Thanksgiving turkey for the family!
2. I can cook it but man I can't carve it! Who knew carving a turkey was so difficult. I mean I looked at the diagrams and directions, made my first cut and went "whoa!" The mess I made was spectaculor. But I did manage to get most of the meat onto the plate in fairly normal sized pieces....
3. Even Josh, oh nose turner upper himself, loves the smell of a cooking turkey. The whole house just smells wonderful.
4. Raw turkey preparation is NOT my thing...I was almost a converted vegetarian getting that bird ready to go. Seriously, can't they provide it without a neck and giblets? ICK! Its a good thing the roasted turkey smelled and looked divine or I may have been put off turkey for good...and yes this is a similar to the reason I don't eat chicken.

Good job on the turkey! Good luck with the big gathering. Have chocolate on hand, so you can get a fix if it gets too stressful

I'm not surprised you can do it! I bet you even remembered to put the sugar in the pumpkin pies :)

I did remember the sugar for the pies, and dinner turned out great on Thanksgiving. It was actually kinda fun to be the one in charge although next time I'd like to cook the food at the same place its served...haha

Mom says you need to come home for some turkey prep lessons and not be such a whimp. Do it for Joshy and Eric, they would appreciate your sacrifice
